Narrative of the Young Shepherd

In the heart of the captivating rolling hills, dwelt a boy named Shepherd. His life was mostly untarnished, simple, and honest. His only responsibility was here essentially to look after his flock of ewes.
Their soft bleating and the murmuring of the breezes among the solo tree on the hilltop were his only co-dwellers. Day after day, guarding his responsibilities instilled in him a sense of calm satisfaction.
But, there were the occasional moments of isolation, when the shepherd boy would long for fellowship. On one such day because of sheer tedium, the shepherd boy devised a mischievous scheme.
Narratives of wolves preying on sheep had been heard times and again in the hamlet. So, the boy chose to leveraged this fear and played a trick on the townsfolk.
One afternoon he dashed into the village yelling “Wolf! There is a wolf that has taken my sheep!” The scared villagers ran up the hills to help but saw no beast.
The boy chuckled at the puzzle on their faces. This prank persisted for a few more days. However, one noon, a real wolf did come to prey the herd. The shepherd boy dashed for help, screaming “Wolf, Wolf!” But this time, no one showed up.
Frustrated and alone, the boy fought against the wolf but could protect only few of his flock. Devastated, he returned to the village only to receive a scolding on honesty and the repercussions of dishonesty.
The story of this shepherd boy has been handed down generations as a mediaeval parable for teaching the importance of honesty, the implications of dishonesty and the perils of false alarms. Moreover, it highlights how trust once broken, is tough to regain. It's a story as pertinent today as it was anciently.
